Petrol tanker explodes at Bida-Agaei road in Niger

A petrol-laden tanker skidded off the road, fell and exploded on Tuesday afternoon on Bida-Agaei Road in Niger. Hajiya Aishatu Sa’adu,  Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger Command, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna. Sa’adu said that the casualty figure  could not be ascertained at the time of  filing this report. She, however, said that her men were already conducting a rescue operation at the scene of the accident. According to her, the unfortunate incident has caused serious traffic gridlock on the ever-busy expressway particularly due to the bad nature of the road. Bandit boss, Katsina communities agree to lay down arms

Tension has begun to ease across parts of Katsina State following a peace agreement reached between a group of bandits and community leaders from several local government areas under the Federal Government’s Operation Safe Corridor initiative. According to counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the truce was sealed on October 12, 2025, during a crucial dialogue held at Kakumi Village in Bakori Local Government Area. The meeting brought together representatives from Bakori, Kafur, Malumfashi, Kankara, and Funtua LGAs, alongside prominent bandit leaders operating within the Funtua zone. Sources revealed that the talks aimed to end years of recurring attacks, killings, and abductions that have devastated communities across southern Katsina. The peace dialogue, which lasted over three hours—from 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.—was described as peaceful and constructive.

Suspected fulani herdsmen kill youth in Enugu

A violent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday, leaving one young man of about 30 years old identified as Onuchukwu Ogbaki dead, has resulted in anger in the Onoli, Ugwuleshi Autonomous community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. According to community sources, Friday’s attack was the latest in a series of attacks by herdsmen, which had already driven residents of Obuovia village out of their farmlands, creating fear and panic among residents, posing a serious threat to lives, livelihoods, and the very survival of the community. Bandits attack security team in Kwara, kill vigilante, injure many

A  joint security operation in Kwara State came under heavy attack on Monday when armed bandits ambushed the team, leaving one vigilante dead and two others injured. The operation, which covered Babasango and surrounding areas, was a coordinated effort involving Police Special Forces, operatives attached to the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, and local vigilante groups. The mission, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Luther, deployed Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, for bush combing. According to security sources, the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. as the team was returning from patrol. The bandits reportedly laid an ambush, sparking a fierce exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, one vigilante was shot dead, while two others sustained serious injuries. Two Buffalo APCs were also disabled in the assault.

Court sentences man to death for killing co-tenant in Ondo

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure , has sentenced a middle-aged man, Sunday Omoniyi, to death by hanging for stabbing to death his co- tenant, Michael Oyebanji, during a fight. Omoniyi was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006. One of the witnesses, Ismaila Adefaka, told the court that the defendant and the deceased were his tenants. Adefaka said that the incident occured on July 23, 2022 at about 6:30am at 4, Canaanland, Ijoka Road in Akure. According to him, “On that day, I suddenly heard noises which forced me to trace the uproar to the defendant’s apartment where I met the deceased in the pool of his blood after he was reportedly stabbed by the defendant with a knife.” He added that he lodged a formal complaint to the police after the deceased was confirmed dead at the hospital. 24-year-old nabbed for kidnapping friend, collecting ransom in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, male, for luring his friend to be kidnapped by his criminal gang. Our correspondent gathered that the suspect planned the kidnapping and collected a ransom in dollar equivalent of N5.3m with his gang members before the victim was released. The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement on Sunday, said police operatives attached to the Uli Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspect on Friday. Ikenga said the suspect, who is now cooperating with the police by providing information to help apprehend his accomplices, will face prosecution after the investigation. Imo bomb explosion; Five feared dead, several wounded

A devastating bomb explosion rocked Ubeheze market in Awo Idemili,   Orlu Local Government Area   of Imo State, on Tuesday, leaving at least five people dead and several others wounded. The explosion occurred around 11 am when traders were opening their stores. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific with dead bodies littering the ground and wounded individuals lying in pools of blood. A police inspector, Yakubu Dauda , has been killed, and his rifle seized by unknown gunmen in the Chwelnyap Rim community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. It was learnt that the incident occurred on Monday when police officers were on an operation in the area. The Divisional Police Officer of Riyom LGA, David Tsado, confirmed the death of the officer to journalists on Tuesday in Riyom during a visit by the fact-finding committee set up by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to investigate the causes of violence plaguing the state.   Troops of 22 Armoured Brigade , deployed at the Forward Operating Base Patigi, in Kwara, have apprehended eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims. A statement signed by Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Brigade in Ilorin on Sunday, disclosed that troops, acting on credible intelligence, launched a tactical operation on Saturday, targeting a hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area. “During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance, but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower,” he said. EFCC nabs seven internet fraudsters in Abuja

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  has arrested seven internet fraudsters in Abuja. Its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. According to him, they were arrested in the Lifecamp and Kubwa axes of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. He said that the arrest was a sequel to credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities. ”Items recovered from them include eight high-end automobiles, expensive laptop computers and mobile phones. ”They will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,” he said.  (NAN)

9-month-old child, three others killed in fresh Plateau community attack

A 9-month-old infant and three other persons have been killed in an attack by gunmen at Nkiendowro community of Bassa local government area of Plateau State. The attack, which happened on Wednesday, led to the killing of two women and one man while two others sustained injuries. The four were said to be conveying tomatoes from Nkiendowro community, from where they planned to transport it to Farin-Gada market in Jos. The Miango community security commander, Josiah Zongo, confirmed the incident, saying that the victims have been taken to the mortuary, while those injured were receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility. The state police command has not reacted to the incident.

Court remands man in prison for allegedly defiling minor

  A 26-year-old man, Jonathan Okoronkwo, has been remanded in prison for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl. The defendant is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on child defilement before the  Chief Magistrates Court 2  sitting in Umuahia. The police prosecutor, Chinyeaka Njoku, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 15, 2025, at Ugwuafor Arochukwu, in Arochukwu LGA. The defendant was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the minor, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 7, sub-section 1 and sub-section 2 of the Abia State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, 2019. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. EFCC arrests 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Kaduna

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Kaduna State. The EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the suspects were arrested in the Mahuta and Barnawa areas of the state capital, following credible information that linked them to fraudulent internet activities. The spokesman said: “Items recovered from them include a black-coloured Mercedes Benz C300, 14 mobile phones, two laptop computers, an iPad, two MiFis, one JBL speaker, and one Zealot speaker. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Delta Safe destroyed 27 illegal refining sites in May 2025. This was contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, on Sunday in Abuja. R esidents of Kulanla Odomoola in Ogun State were left in shock on Saturday after a suspected human parts trafficker, identified simply as Gani, confessed to making a living from selling human body parts for the past decade. The Ogun State Government has arraigned two individuals, Abdulazeez Anidugbe and Ibikunle Kazeem, before the Magistrate Court in Isabo on a two-count charge of public assault and obstruction of public officers from performing their duties. The two were arraigned following an assault on town planning officers of the Zonal Rounda Authority while on official duty. The individuals allegedly incited a mob to attack officers of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, OGPDPA, as they attempted to remove an illegal structure erected on the right-of-way. The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed a tragic industrial accident which claimed the lives of four workers at the Gubi Water Treatment Plant in Bauchi. The spokesman of the command, CSP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi. According to him, the incident occurred during a sludge extraction operation in plant tunnels. Wakili listed the victims as Shayibu Hamza (48), Abdulmalik Yahya (29), Jamilu Inusa (29) and Ibrahim Musa (42). Gunmen killed three policemen and a civilian in Achị, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State on Tuesday, April 14, 2025. The attackers also set fire to the operational vehicle of the police officers. The incident occurred at a checkpoint near the popular Ozudaa market in the community. Details of the attack remain unclear, as the Enugu State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident. A viral video circulating on social media showed the bodies of the fallen policemen lying by the roadside. It is still uncertain whether the gunmen came from the Awgu or Oji end of the road to carry out the attack. Two indigenous people of Achị, Maxwell and Daniel, confirmed the attack and the deaths. Global hunt begins as Interpol backs EFCC probe into CBEX scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a comprehensive investigation into an alleged N1.3 trillion cryptocurrency fraud connected to the now-defunct digital investment platform, CryptoBank Exchange (CBEX). According to the EFCC, the commission is collaborating with the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to trace local and international suspects involved in the massive scam. CBEX, said to have been run by a group of foreign nationals in collaboration with Nigerian partners, abruptly shut down operations on Monday. The sudden collapse left thousands of investors locked out of their accounts. Many reported waking up to find their account balances wiped, with the platform demanding further deposits before access could be regained. Police Confirm Two Persons Dead At Collapsed Mining Site In Niger State

Two men have died after being trapped under rubble during a rockslide at an unauthorised mining site in Farin-Doki, Shiroro Local Government Area , Niger State. The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement late on Monday, saying it occurred on Sunday.  “We received information that a mining site in the remote Farin-Doki area had collapsed,” the statement read.  Officers from the Erena Division, alongside local residents, responded swiftly to the distress call and launched a rescue operation at the scene.  “During the operation, the bodies of two victims, identified as natives of Kano State, were recovered from the rubble.
