Presidency debunks fake ministerial sack reports

The Presidency has debunked the widely circulated reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had sacked three Ministers, describing the story as a fabrication with no basis in fact. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga, on Tuesday night, expressed deep concern over the dangerous trend. NNPC asks over 200 staff with one year to retirement to go

Aside from the Group Managing Directors of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS),  Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries that were relieved of their duties yesterday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has also asked over 200 staff with a year to retirement to quit. A reliable insider source  in the NNPCL revealed to The Nation on Wednesday morning that the comprehensive list of the affected staff was not available yet. R esidents of Kulanla Odomoola in Ogun State were left in shock on Saturday after a suspected human parts trafficker, identified simply as Gani, confessed to making a living from selling human body parts for the past decade. Ogun State prosecutes two for assault, obstruction of duty

The Ogun State Government has arraigned two individuals, Abdulazeez Anidugbe and Ibikunle Kazeem, before the Magistrate Court in Isabo on a two-count charge of public assault and obstruction of public officers from performing their duties. The two were arraigned following an assault on town planning officers of the Zonal Rounda Authority while on official duty. The individuals allegedly incited a mob to attack officers of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, OGPDPA, as they attempted to remove an illegal structure erected on the right-of-way. Tech billionaire Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, on Friday reacted to the United States Navy’s decision to cancelled wasteful IT contracts, 45 grants and awards funding in the country. Phelan, had  on Thursday night announced that almost $300million was saved after he canceled wasteful IT contracts, 45 grants and awards funding. New Israel-Gaza ceasefire plan underway

A senior Palestinian official familiar with Israel-Hamas ceasefire negotiations has told the BBC that Qatari and Egyptian mediators have proposed a new formula to end the war in Gaza. According to the official, it envisages a truce lasting between five and seven years, the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, a formal end to the war, and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. A senior Hamas delegation was due to arrive in Cairo for consultations. The last ceasefire collapsed a month ago when Israel resumed bombing Gaza, with both sides blaming each other for the failure to keep it going. Israel has not commented on the mediators’ plan. Tragic accident claims lives at Bauchi industrial plant

The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed a tragic industrial accident which claimed the lives of four workers at the Gubi Water Treatment Plant in Bauchi. The spokesman of the command, CSP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi. According to him, the incident occurred during a sludge extraction operation in plant tunnels. Wakili listed the victims as Shayibu Hamza (48), Abdulmalik Yahya (29), Jamilu Inusa (29) and Ibrahim Musa (42). The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that they were all residents of Firo village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state. According to Wakili, the workers were inside a clarifier clearing blockages from pit pipes when the incident happened. They were pulled out unconscious and rushed to Specialist Hospital in Bauchi, where they were pronounced dead. Police assure Bauchi residents of security during Easter

Trailer crashes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

  Traffic was brought to a standstill on the outbound section of the  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway  on Saturday morning following a trailer accident near the Berger axis in Lagos State. The incident, which occurred in the early hours, involved a lone trailer transporting a container that overturned and completely obstructed the outward-bound carriageway. As of the time of filing this report, vehicular movement had been halted for over an hour, with the traffic gridlock extending from the Berger Bridge to the Old Toll Gate near 7Up. The disruption has forced some motorists to drive against traffic on the inward-bound lane, further compounding the congestion. Emergency response teams were yet to fully clear the obstruction and restore normal flow as of press time.

Gunmen kill four policemen in Enugu, set patrol vehicle ablaze

Gunmen killed three policemen and a civilian in Achị, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State on Tuesday, April 14, 2025. The attackers also set fire to the operational vehicle of the police officers. The incident occurred at a checkpoint near the popular Ozudaa market in the community. Details of the attack remain unclear, as the Enugu State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident. A viral video circulating on social media showed the bodies of the fallen policemen lying by the roadside. It is still uncertain whether the gunmen came from the Awgu or Oji end of the road to carry out the attack. Two indigenous people of Achị, Maxwell and Daniel, confirmed the attack and the deaths. They also stated that the civilian victim was a well-known young man in the area.

Naira down to N1,620/$ in parallel market

The naira yesterday depreciated to N1, 620 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,618 per dollar on Tuesday. But, the Naira appreciated to N1,599 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM). Data published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, showed that the indicative exchange rate for the naira fell to N1,599 per dollar from N1,604 per dollar on Tuesday, indicating N5 appreciation for the naira. Consequently, the margin between the parallel market and NFEM rate widened to N21 per dollar from N14 Tuesday.

No Fulani herders attack in Enugu – Police

According to the command, through its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, its scrutiny showed the report as “entirely false, sensational, and mischievous.” The command asserted that the report contained fabricated names and incidents that never occurred in the state. According to the EFCC, the commission is collaborating with the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to trace local and international suspects involved in the massive scam. CBEX, said to have been run by a group of foreign nationals in collaboration with Nigerian partners, abruptly shut down operations on Monday. Police Confirm Two Persons Dead At Collapsed Mining Site In Niger State

Two men have died after being trapped under rubble during a rockslide at an unauthorised mining site in Farin-Doki, Shiroro Local Government Area , Niger State. The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement late on Monday, saying it occurred on Sunday.  “We received information that a mining site in the remote Farin-Doki area had collapsed,” the statement read.  Officers from the Erena Division, alongside local residents, responded swiftly to the distress call and launched a rescue operation at the scene.  “During the operation, the bodies of two victims, identified as natives of Kano State, were recovered from the rubble.
